Every word and sentence in our Mandarin course

This is the complete vocabulary of the Second Language Mandarin course, published as the game ships it. Open any word to see the sentences the game uses to teach it, with pinyin, a translation, a difficulty band, and recordings you can play.

Nothing here is a sample. The page is built from the same course files the app downloads, so it changes when the course does.

250 words and 1,600 example sentences, exactly as the game teaches them.

Easy, medium, and hard are the game’s own sentence bands, not CEFR or HSK levels.

This is the published course content. The app updates its content on its own schedule, so a player may briefly see an earlier version.

Reading stories

50 short stories from the course. Some unlock later in the game, so they may reveal parts of the story.

How the course uses these words

The game introduces words in the order shown. Each word comes with several sentences: easy ones first, then medium and hard ones that combine it with words you already know. You meet them in quests, mini-games, and conversations rather than as a list.

The intro course covers the first words. The expansion continues it inside the game with more words and easy sentences for each one.

Reading stories

The Mandarin course also has short reading stories set in the game’s village. Each one uses only the words a player has learned by that point, footnotes the few it needs beyond them, and ends with comprehension questions. Some unlock as the game’s story moves on, so they may give parts of it away.

Where the list comes from

The words are drawn from the HSK vocabulary levels and ordered for a first course, so the most useful words for simple conversations come first. The sentences are written for the course, and each one is recorded in two voices.

For the full HSK word lists, see the HSK vocabulary tool.
