crush 指对某人强烈的浪漫感觉，通常不会持续很久。对象往往是你没有在交往的人，对方甚至可能不知道你的心意。这个词也可以指那个人本身：“He’s my crush.” 你会在短信、社交媒体、歌曲和校园电视剧里看到它。

读成一个短短的词，和 “brush” 押韵：KRUSH。它不正式，但绝对不算没礼貌。青少年用得最多。成年人也会用，常常是开玩笑，或者说名人的时候。韦氏词典（Merriam-Webster）把动词形式 “crush on” 标为非正式用语 [1]。

别这样说

  • 听着别扭I have a crush with him.

    这样说I have a crush on him.

    一定要用 “on”。要说 have a crush on 某人，而不是 have a crush with 某人。

  • 听着别扭I crush him.

    这样说I have a crush on him. / I’m crushing on him.

    不带 “on” 的话，crush 的意思是压扁，或者打败某人。这可不是你想传达的信息。

  • 听着别扭I have a crash on her.

    这样说I have a crush on her.

    “Crash”（KRASH）是车祸。“Crush” 是短短的 “uh” 音，像 “brush” 或 “much”。

  • 听着别扭You crushed on the exam!

    这样说You crushed the exam! / You crushed it!

    “Crush on” 说的是爱情。想说某人表现得很好，要用 “crush it”，或者 “crush” 加上那件事，中间不要 “on”。

crush家族

  • puppy love年轻人之间甜蜜、纯真的爱，常常是初恋。还背着书包的 crush。
  • infatuation指对某人强烈迷恋（通常不会持续很久）的正式说法。crush 穿上西装之后的名字。
  • mash19 世纪的美国老俚语，指强烈的迷恋，或者你喜欢的那个人。crush 也许是从它演变来的，但没人确定。反正现在已经没人这么说了。

它从哪儿来

  1. 1884 年从 1300 年代起，crush 就有砸碎、弄坏的意思，来自古法语。1884 年，它第一次出现在美国俚语里，指某人爱慕的人 [2]。一个早期的例子是伊莎贝拉·莫德·里滕豪斯（Isabella Maud Rittenhouse）的日记：“Wintie is weeping because her crush is gone” [3]。
  2. 1890 年代作家们开始用 crush 来指这种感觉本身，而不只是指引起这种感觉的人 [3]。
  3. 1903 年“to have a crush on” someone 这个说法有了记录 [2]。
  4. 如今crush 是说初恋、暗恋或对名人的喜欢时的日常用词。没人确定一个表示“压碎”的词为什么会变成表示“喜欢某人”的词。

Crush on、crush it 还是 crushed？

同一个词还有好几个别的意思，只有一部分和爱情有关。像 on 和 it 这样的小词，会让意思完全不同。

带 on，说的是感情。不带 on，就是有东西被压扁了，有人在比赛中输了，或者有人干得特别棒。你可以对某人有 crush，约他出去，然后被 crushed。这是同一个词，却是两个截然不同的夜晚。
