crush 指對某人強烈的浪漫感覺，通常不會持續很久。對象往往是你沒有在交往的人，對方甚至可能不知道你的心意。這個詞也可以指那個人本身：“He’s my crush.” 你會在簡訊、社交媒體、歌曲和校園電視劇裡看到它。

讀成一個短短的詞，和 “brush” 押韻：KRUSH。它不正式，但絕對不算沒禮貌。青少年用得最多。成年人也會用，常常是開玩笑，或者說名人的時候。韋氏詞典（Merriam-Webster）把動詞形式 “crush on” 標為非正式用語 [1]。

別這樣說

  • 聽著彆扭I have a crush with him.

    這樣說I have a crush on him.

    一定要用 “on”。要說 have a crush on 某人，而不是 have a crush with 某人。

  • 聽著彆扭I crush him.

    這樣說I have a crush on him. / I’m crushing on him.

    不帶 “on” 的話，crush 的意思是壓扁，或者打敗某人。這可不是你想傳達的資訊。

  • 聽著彆扭I have a crash on her.

    這樣說I have a crush on her.

    “Crash”（KRASH）是車禍。“Crush” 是短短的 “uh” 音，像 “brush” 或 “much”。

  • 聽著彆扭You crushed on the exam!

    這樣說You crushed the exam! / You crushed it!

    “Crush on” 說的是愛情。想說某人表現得很好，要用 “crush it”，或者 “crush” 加上那件事，中間不要 “on”。

是不是crush？

crush家族

  • puppy love年輕人之間甜蜜、純真的愛，常常是初戀。還揹著書包的 crush。
  • infatuation指對某人強烈迷戀（通常不會持續很久）的正式說法。crush 穿上西裝之後的名字。
  • mash19 世紀的美國老俚語，指強烈的迷戀，或者你喜歡的那個人。crush 也許是從它演變來的，但沒人確定。反正現在已經沒人這麼說了。

它從哪兒來

  1. 1884 年從 1300 年代起，crush 就有砸碎、弄壞的意思，來自古法語。1884 年，它第一次出現在美國俚語裡，指某人愛慕的人 [2]。一個早期的例子是伊莎貝拉·莫德·裡滕豪斯（Isabella Maud Rittenhouse）的日記：“Wintie is weeping because her crush is gone” [3]。
  2. 1890 年代作家們開始用 crush 來指這種感覺本身，而不只是指引起這種感覺的人 [3]。
  3. 1903 年“to have a crush on” someone 這個說法有了記錄 [2]。
  4. 如今crush 是說初戀、暗戀或對名人的喜歡時的日常用詞。沒人確定一個表示“壓碎”的詞為什麼會變成表示“喜歡某人”的詞。

Crush on、crush it 還是 crushed？

同一個詞還有好幾個別的意思，只有一部分和愛情有關。像 on 和 it 這樣的小詞，會讓意思完全不同。

帶 on，說的是感情。不帶 on，就是有東西被壓扁了，有人在比賽中輸了，或者有人幹得特別棒。你可以對某人有 crush，約他出去，然後被 crushed。這是同一個詞，卻是兩個截然不同的夜晚。
