ghosting 是什么意思？

Ghosting 的意思是突然断绝和某人的所有联系，而且不做任何解释。你不再回他的消息，不接他的电话，像鬼一样消失了。聊约会时最常听到它，但人们也会 ghost 朋友、求职者，甚至雇主。

读的时候，把 ghost 加上 -ing：GOH-sting。h 不发音。这个词很随意，但并不粗鲁，各个年龄的人都在用，连新闻里也有。人们不喜欢这种行为，但这个词本身可以放心说。

别这样说

    动词是 “ghost”，它的词尾变化和普通动词一样：ghost、ghosts、ghosted、is ghosting。

    这样说I was ghosted by him. / I got ghosted.

是不是ghosting？

下面每种情况都算ghosting吗？选一个答案看看吧。

  1. 你和一个人约会了三次。然后他不再回你的消息和电话，也从不解释。

  2. 你的朋友发来消息：“Crazy week, can we talk on Sunday?”

  3. 凌晨 1 点，你悄悄离开了一场大派对，没和任何人道别。

  4. 一位同事因为生病，晚了一天才回你的邮件。

ghosting家族

  • left on read有人看到了你的消息（应用显示 “Read”），却没有回复。常常是 ghosting 的第一步。那个小小的 “Read”，杀伤力却大得离谱。
  • slow fade回复越来越少，直到联系中断。也叫 soft ghosting。Ghosting 的慢动作版。
  • breadcrumbing偶尔发一些很短的消息，让对方一直感兴趣，但没有任何真正的计划。给的关注刚好够让你守着手机等。

它从哪儿来

  1. 19 世纪动词 ghost 的意思是像鬼一样悄悄地移动。现代俚语就是从这个老意思发展出来的 [1]。
  2. 2004–2006 年先是 ghost 开始表示不打招呼就突然离开（2004 年）。到了 2006 年，它也表示断绝和某人的所有联系 [1]。
  3. 2015 年柯林斯词典把 ghosting 列入年度词汇的候选名单（binge-watch 获胜）。它的公告提到了一条备受关注的新闻：女演员查理兹·塞隆就是这样结束了和演员西恩·潘的婚约 [2]。
  4. 2017 年 2 月韦氏词典把 ghost 的新意思加入了词典 [1]。

Ghosting：一个人、一场派对，还是一块屏幕？

Ghosting 不止一个意思。下表里的第一个，是你最常看到的。

其实派对这个意思更老。韦氏词典把它追溯到 2004 年，比 “断绝所有联系” 这个意思早两年 [1]。同样的意思还有一个老说法：French leave，但今天很少有人说了。

怎么知道对方想表达哪个意思呢？看被 ghost 的是什么。你 ghost 一个人，就是永远离开他。你 ghost 一场派对，只是离开这一晚。如果有人只说 “sorry I ghosted”，后面什么都没有，就要看上下文：他可能是提前离开了一个活动，也可能只是有一阵子没回消息。
